Bupa's review of length of stay and out-patient procedures

Following discussions with professional associations and societies, and hospital groups, Bupa has recently completed a review of the length of stay (LOS) for procedures. Where clinically appropriate, some procedures which were previously classified as day-case or in-patient procedures have now been designated out-patient procedures.

Consultants who perform any of these procedures regularly will receive a copy in the post.

We recognise that there may be occasions where it is more clinically appropriate to carry out the procedure as a day-case or an in-patient, eg, because of co-morbidities or the need for a general anaesthetic. In these circumstances we would ask that you provide the hospital admissions staff with the medical reason to support that decision.

Change in provision for healthcare at home

With effect from 12 May 2008, Clinovia became Bupa’s preferred provider for specialist home healthcare services. The change of provider is part of Bupa’s overall aim for continuous improvement in the service available to its members.

With the change of provider, the referral process has also changed. To refer a patient for treatment, the number to ring is 0845 600 3380.

Bupa extends MRI network - April 2008

We are pleased to announce that on Sunday 20 April 2008, the MRI network went live, with at least 30 percent more MRI providers than the 2006 - 2008 network. Find out more about the new MRI network.

Bupa acquires the Cromwell Hospital - March 2008

Bupa has announced the acquisition of the Cromwell Hospital in west London for £90 million as part of a plan to create a flagship private hospital in the capital. It will be known as the Bupa Cromwell Hospital.
